Lonny E. McCone, 78, of Homer, Michigan, passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at home.

He was born on August 10, 1946 to Clarence and Ina (Smith) McCone in Albion, Michigan.

On November 6, 1965, Lonny married Marilyn Hoaglin in Homer, Michigan. He graduated from Homer High School and soon after was drafted into the United States Army.

He along with his wife Marilyn owned and operated Lonny's Super Value Grocery Store in Homer for 16 years, retiring in 1989. He was a longtime member of the Homer Lion's Club and the Homer Historical Society. Lonny was an excellent woodworker, making cabinets and dressers among other things.

He was an avid Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers fan. He enjoyed reading, golfing and spending winters in Arizona. His favorite place to be was in the woodshop and with family.

Lonny is survived by his loving spouse of 58 years Marilyn; his two sons Kevin (Sarah) McCone of Harrison, Michigan and Derin (Amy) McCone of Homer, Michigan; his grandchildren Sienna McCone, Breanna (Nate) Karney, Brooke McCone and Morgan McCone; his great grandson Tatum Karney; and his three sisters Jane McCone of Florence, Kentucky, Patsy Royalty of Columbus, Ohio and Becky (Pete) Schwartz of Verona, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Kitt McCone.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 18, 2024, from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at Kempf's of Homer with the memorial service to follow at 1:00 pm. Pastor Steve Kaszar officiating.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Homer Public Library or the Homer Historical Society.
