Gloria Lee Murphy (Tully), 85, passed away peacefully at her home, Oct. 25, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.
Wife, Mother, Sister, Aunt, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother. Gloria was born December 10th, 1936 to Silas Edgar and Rebecca (Mason) Tully of Hamilton County, Cincinnati, OH.
Gloria was united in marriage to George Bernard Murphy on March 2, 1957, Mt. Pleasant, MI. Together, they had eight children. Therese (Douglas) Van Dyke, Terry (Timothy) Hageman, William (Paige) Murphy, Patrick J. Murphy, Tammy Murphy Burgwin, Toni (James) Kleinmeier, Michael (Angie) Murphy, Gloria (George) Kleinmeier.
29 Grandchildren, Ryan (Katie) VanDyke, Bryan (Lindsey) VanDyke, Douglas Jr. VanDyke (Laura Boyer), Kelly VanDyke, Vincent (Emily Hope) VanDyke, Laura VanDyke. Kyle (Taylor) Hageman, Timothy Jr (Bekah) Hageman, Georganne (Ryan) McHugh. Lindsey (Britt) Gentzel, Kateyln Murphy, Becca (Will) Ethridge, Bailey Jimenez. Sean Murphy, Dallas Murphy, Kirsten Murphy. Brooks Burgwin. Christopher Kleinmeier, Joshua Kleinmeier, Joseph Kleinmeier. Bailey Murphy, George Murphy, Jack Murphy. Gloria Kleinmeier, Holly Kleinmeier, Kylie Kleinmeier, Timothy (Brieanna) Kleinmeier, Amanda Kleinmeier. And 26 Great-Grandchildren.
Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, George in 2010; brothers, David and Richard; sister-in-law, Barbara Tully; grandchildren, John Paul Kleinmeier, Lilly Rose Murphy and Bradley Todd Burgwin; and in-laws, Thomas Murphy, William and Patricia Murphy, Daniel and Mary Kostrzewa of Mt. Pleasant, MI.
She is survived by her brother, Daniel Tully, Vicksburg & sister in-law, Donna Murphy of Mt. Pleasant, along with many nieces and nephews.
Gloria grew up in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan and shortly after graduating from Mt. Pleasant High School, class of 1955, she meets the love of her life, George B. Murphy also from the same area. They married March 2, 1957, and decided to begin a new life in Richland, Michigan.
Their love for each other and family grew quickly, as they purchased the farmhouse on East G Ave., Kalamazoo. Gloria & George moved the family once again in 1981 to Irving, TX. Where they pursued a trucking business until retirement age, they then returned to Marshall, Michigan.
Gloria’s professional career path (besides loving George and raising 8 fantastic children) include: Clerk, homemaker, salesperson at Migala Carpet Center, Sears, Meijer’s. Trucking dispatcher, Manager of Village Green Apartments, Marshall.
Gloria enjoyed many hobbies. Bird watching, gardening, selling arts & crafts, making crosses, folk art painting, traveling, singing in the Marshall Community Chorus, participate in the Marshall Theater, member of St. Mary Catholic Parish, Marshall as usher and chorus.
Gloria was a believer in raising Free Range Children on the farm. Her love and passion for her husband, children and her faith in God was clearly visible in her daily life. She taught the meaning of love, compassion, forgiveness, truth, responsibilities and a strong work ethic.
She also looked forward to spending time with younger people and social gatherings. Her smile was contagious, and later in life she looked forward to dining out and having a slice of pie. When partaking in small cocktails, she would show the measurement with her pinky finger…with a wink and a click of her mouth.
The family invites you to join them in celebrating the incredible life of their beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, and Aunt by attending services at Kempf Family Funeral and Cremation Services, 723 US Hwy 27 N, Marshall, Michigan, 49068. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 5:00 to 7:00pm. A funeral mass will be on Thursday, November 3, 2022 at 11:00am at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Church, 212 W. Hanover Street, Marshall, Michigan, 49068, Reverend Father Craig Lusk officiating. A private family committal service and interment will take place on Friday, November 4, 2022 with the love of her life George, at Fort Custer National Cemetery.
