David L. Wallace, age 85, of Battle Creek, MI passed away peacefully Thursday, June 28, 2018 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Columbus, OH on August 13, 1932, the son of Carlton F. and Edna T. (Hottle) Wallace. After High School, he joined the Navy at South High in Columbus, Ohio. While proudly serving his country, he was a radar man on the USS Rowan destroyer during the Korean War. David graduated from Capital University in Columbus, OH with a double major in math and physics. He also attended classes at Western Michigan University and Kellogg Community College. David married Elizabeth Wallace, which ended in divorce. On August 2, 1980 he married Kay Parker (Watson). David retired in 1990 from the Department of Defense as a programmer/analyst at the Federal Center in Battle Creek, MI. Former employment included Defense Logistics Services Center, Defense Finance and Accounting in Columbus, OH and Denver, CO as well as a Surveyor for the Ohio Department of Transportation. He earned his Builder Contractor license after retirement, designing, building, and remodeling houses.
In 1986, he and his partner won the first annual Albion Marshall Bridge Tournament. He also enjoyed racing sailboats on Goguac Lake, Coldwater Lake, and Lake George. He was a commodore at Goguac Lake Yacht Club and Coldwater Lake Sailing Club. For the last 10 years, David and Kay spent winters at Travelers Rest Resort in Dade City, FL. They also took many vacations to the Caribbean, enjoying sailing and cruising the ocean to over 20 islands. David also enjoyed downhill skiing, cross country skiing, ice skating, hunting, fishing, and scuba diving.
David is survived by his loving wife, Kay of almost 38 years; children, Eric (Kathy) Wallace of Marshall, MI, Beatrice (Tom) Wallace of Battle Creek, MI; step-daughter, Alexandria (Rick) Parker Wilbert; grandchildren, Cameron Wallace and Megan Striffler; step-grandchildren, Xander Wilbert and Jillian Wilbert. Also survived by nieces, nephews and their children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Barbara Swain.
An interment of ashes will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery on Friday, July 27, 2018 at 1:30pm. A celebration of life will take place at Glenmoor Village Clubhouse, 3971 Capital Avenue SW, Battle Creek, MI from 1:00pm - 4:00pm. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Humane Society of South Central Michigan.
